Research into the plastic (packaging) chain
In the Dutch Framework Agreement for Packaging 2013-2022, the national government, the packaging industry and the Dutch municipalities (VNG) agreed to work towards a system in which revenue covers costs. The Addendum to the Framework Agreement states that significant steps will be implemented towards achieving a raw materials cycle and a circular economy in 2013 – 2022, and that partners share the specific aspiration to achieve the transition to a closed loop for raw materials. Collection and recycling of household waste of plastic packaging in the Netherlands has risen exponentially in recent years. At the same time, costs are rising and quality is not yet high enough to compete with virgin raw materials.
